SAVE YOUR LOCAL POST OFFICEThe UK Labour Government is set to close 2,500 post offices around the UK. This is in addition to the 4,000 they have already closed and the 3,500 closed under the Conservatives. All 25 post offices in the area will be under review and consultation later in the year - the outcome of which could see some of them closed. Unlike local Labour, Willie Rennie MP, Jim Tolson MSP and the local Liberal Democrats are fighting any potential closures. Willie Rennie commented; "Post offices are often the heart of a community, providing services and a social meeting point for residents, especially for those who may find it difficult to get to other areas. It is vital that we fight these closures. So far over 1,000 people have signed up to our campaign against these closures, we hope many more will too." The local Liberal Democrats have already delivered a petition against the closures, signed by over 1,000 local people to 10 Downing Street. They are now calling for more people to sign the petition. Jim Tolson MSP said; "The more people who sign the petition, the greater the pressure we can put on the Government to scrap its plans. Not only are we collecting petition signatures, we would also like to hear from people about the importance of their local post office to them. We want to be able to hand to the Prime Minister, letters from local people showing Mr Brown how vital the post office is to people and their community."
