Jim Tolson MSP at Dunfermline Abbey

A Fifer born and bred, Jim has lived in Dunfermline all his adult life and recently celebrated his 10th wedding anniversary to wife Alison. After working in Rosyth Dockyard for 19 years, Jim completed an Honours Degree in Computer Networking. Jim served as a Councillor for 15 years before being elected by the people of Dunfermline and West Fife to represent them as their Member of the Scottish Parliament.

As MSP for Dunfermline West Jim sits on the Local Government and Communities Committee and is the Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for Communities and Sport. He was a strong supporter of the successful Glasgow Commonwealth Games bid and, through his work on the Committee, hopes to maximize the opportunities for talented Scottish youth to compete in 2014.

Through his Committee work and his Shadow Ministerial duties, Jim led the housing debate around the Right to Buy and was instrumental in the Liberal Democrat policy change of scrapping the Right to Buy and granting more flexibility to local Councils to meet local needs.

Jim has a keen interest in motor sports and travel (when there is time!). He and his wife are also keen gardeners. As a charity fundraiser, Jim has run the Dunfermline Half Marathon and abseiled down the Wallace Monument.
